Im sure I have read that a good player will close or open a game to strengthen their knight/bishop. This is the first time I think I have influenced a game i was playing with this and it illustrates the idea nicely (exchanging bishop for knight and closing in the process).

This game surprised me because naturally I much prefer playing with bishops (especially with play on both sides of the board) but here the endgame is materially equal but the bishop is absolutely useless.
